A glitter of captured moments
Retrospective exhibition of photographs of the master of photography Božo Štajer
6. December 2017 – 29. February 2018
The selected photographs in the retrospective exhibition on the fiftieth anniversary of the death of the photographic master (1910-1967) outline the rich heritage of twenty-one thousand negatives kept by the National Museum of Contemporary History.
There is no photographic genre, in fact, in which Božo Štajer did not try his hand: he tried documentary, reportage, fashion and advertising photography, as well as film photography and film recording during the period of working in the company Triglav Film (1948-1963). The opus of photographs for various clients - sculptors, museums - who needed photographs for catalogues and other documentary and exhibition purposes has also been richly preserved. Božo Štajer also devoted his knowledge of photography to authorial photographs, to which he was dedicated in his free time and for which his daughter Jana was his favourite motif.
The exhibition A Glitter of Captured Moments presents a rich photographic heritage.
Selected photographs of film scenes and photographs taken during the filming of eight Slovene film hits are thus presented to the wider public: In Our Own Land (1948), The World in Kajžar (1952), Don't Wait for May (1957), The Good Sea (1958), X-25 Reporting (1960) Night Excursion (1961), That Beautiful Day (1962) and Good Luck, Kekec (1963). Additionally, there are some outstanding content groups of photographs that show the work and activity of the photographer in more detail. The series of photographs of Sečovlje saltpans is exceptional, as is the series of male, female and child portraits. The photographer also captured in his lens the sabrist, Rudolf Cvetko, the first Slovenian Olympic medal winner. Photographs that testify to a mostly rarely perceived image of the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana also make up their own group. The aim of the exhibition is to draw the general public's attention to the legacy of a truly remarkable photographic master, while at the same time paying homage to the opus that he recorded with his camera during his 20 years of professional activity.
